It is interesting watching Israel, the current government in all of its disparate form, had a reputation for being tough and focused. Yet they have allowed themselves to be caught up in webs of negotiations over most issues including Iran, which is considered the greatest threat to Israel since 1973. So the question has to be is this a deliberate strategy in that case they should be slightly more willing to share the strategy to calm fears, or is it a malaise, in that case Israel and possibly the west is under a great deal of threat and it is evidence of drift in the much vaunted Israeli focus.
I hope the Israelis can gain their focus and stand up and do what is right even in the face of short sighted “world opinion”

Recipe: Pomegranate and Sour Cherry Mandelbrot

Thanks to the The Seattle Times

Pomegranate and Sour Cherry Mandelbrot

Makes 2 dozen

1/2 cup vegetable oil

1/4 cup pomegranate molasses

3 tablespoons honey

1 cup sugar, plus extra for sprinkling

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

3 eggs, lightly beaten

3 cups all-purpose flour

1 3/4 teaspoons baking powder

1/4 teaspoon salt

1/4 teaspoon cinnamon

1 cup walnut halves

3/4 cup dried sour cherries, plumped in warm water, then drained and dried

1 egg white, beaten

1. Heat the oven to 325 degrees. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

2. In a medium bowl, Whisk together the oil, pomegranate molasses, honey, sugar and vanilla. Whisk in the beaten whole eggs. Stir in the flour, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, walnut halves and dried cherries.

3. Spoon out 2 rows of the dough about 8-by-3- or 4-inches wide. Brush the top with the egg white, then sprinkle with sugar.

4. Bake until the top of the dough seems firm and dry, about 25 to 35 minutes. Remove from the oven and reduce heat to 300 degrees.

5. Carefully slide the mandelbrot off the baking sheet and cut them crosswise into slices 3/4 inch thick. Place a wire cooling rack over the baking sheet, then arrange the mandelbrot slices on it. Bake for another 20 to 30 minutes, or until crisp and dry.

Hamas Seeks New Doctrine after Gaza War Failures

Defensive victory( A Clinton in power and a rouge state going nuclear, it feels like North Korea all over again)

IAEA's poor nations split on Iran's attack ban bid

As the title suggest while this may be a victory against the ever encroaching Iranian Nuclear program, its still mealy a defensive victory. It still leaves the west and Israel on the back foot in terms of Iran’s nuclear program, it still leaves negations appearing to be an attempt by some western leaders to absolve their conciseness of this issue, it still leaves Israel under threat and finally it still leaves this entire issue without clear American leadership.

There can only be two outcomes with this entire issue ONE Iran goes nuclear or TWO the west stops Iran going nuclear. The worst possible way to get to either outcome is through a lack of leadership and will of behalf of the west, if we sleep walk into an outcome this will send a message to the rest of the world that the west is paralyzed and in terminal decline. It will also set a modern precedent for foreign policy behavior that a managed sleep walk into an outcome is acceptable behavior by the west. Is this really the new foreign policy reality that we want, debate and discourse as to how to best sleep walk into solutions?

Saudi Arabia on arms shopping spree in Russia

This story has significance for the world and more importantly for American and British interests in the Middle East.

Saudi Arabia on arms shopping spree in Russia

There are many possible reasons for this new axis to emerge, Saudi’s worry over Iran( Saudi Arabia may be courting Russia to gain influence in the Kremlin in order to encourage Russia to reduce help to Iran) Also it may be Saudi Arabia feels slighted by the west over many issues. What is clear though is that two of the world’s largest oil producers coming together may impact oil prices for the worse. Also what is clear is Saudi Arabia feels western protection and help in a great deal many issues may not be as forth coming as it needs, thus Saudi is seeking closer ties with many countries to protect itself.
For Russia this represents a coup in influencing an area that is traditionally considered very western orientated.

Jumblatt: Iran, Saudi Arabia should arm Lebanon

This is just another issue in a litany of concerns that surrounds Lebanon. Iran and the likes of Jumblatt involving themselves in the body politic of Lebanon represents nothing short of an attack, all be it a slow malodorous attack, against not just Lebanon and its people but also against Israel, the West and stability.
But we must see this issue in a broader context, that's to say the weakness of Arabian and middle eastern states, there inability to connect and be held to account by there people and the un-yielding focus and long game that Iran Syria and other anti western states are playing in the region.
Until we except that there is a long game being played against the west and its interest in the middle east, until we recognise the fundamental weakness of the middle eastern state we will continue to see symptoms like this that will have a long lasting and profound effect on middle eastern and western history.

Recipes:Chicken and cheese quesadilla, refried bean chimichanga and sweetcorn salsa

Thank You BBC
Ingredients
For the quesadilla
8 ready-made flour tortillas
250g/9oz mature cheddar, grated
300g/11oz cooked chicken breast, thickly sliced
½ red onion, finely sliced
60g/2½oz jalapeno chillies, roughly chopped
1 small bunch coriander leaves and roots
4 tbsp sour cream
2 tbsp olive oil
For the chimichanga
1 x 435g/15oz can refried beans
½ red chilli, finely chopped
1 lime, juice only
110g/4oz canned black-eyed beans, rinsed and drained
2 spring onions, roughly chopped
3 tbsp fresh coriander root and leaves, chopped
4 ready-made flour tortillas
1 free-range egg, beaten
For the salsa
150g/5oz sweetcorn
20g/¾oz jalapeno chillies, roughly chopped
1 green chilli, finely chopped
1 lime, juice only
2 tbsp fresh mint leaves, roughly chopped
2 tbsp fresh coriander leaves, roughly chopped
salt and freshly ground black pepper

Method
1. For quesadilla, place four of the tortillas onto a board and cover each with the grated cheese.
2. Divide the chicken, red onion, jalapeno chillies and coriander equally over the cheese-covered tortillas.
3. Spread the sour cream onto one side of each of the remaining four tortillas and place sour cream-side down onto the filled tortillas.
4. Heat a frying pan and add the oil. Carefully place a quesadilla into the frying pan and cook over a medium heat for 3-4 minutes, until crisp and golden and the cheese filling is melting. Carefully turn the quesadilla over and cook on the other side for a further two minutes, or until crisp and golden. Remove from the pan and set aside to keep warm. Repeat with the remaining quesadillas.
5. Cut the quesadillas into quarters and serve fresh and hot.
6. For the chimichangas, heat a deep fat fryer to 190C/375F.
7. Place the refried beans, chilli, lime juice, black-eyed beans, spring onions, and coriander into a bowl and mix well.
8. Divide the spicy bean mixture into four and place into the centre of four tortillas.
9. To construct the chimichanga, fold either end of each tortilla in, then roll up like a cigar. Brush the final edge of each tortilla with beaten egg to seal the parcel.
10. Place each chimichanga into the deep fat fryer and fry for 3-4 minutes, or until golden and piping hot all the way through. Carefully remove with a slotted spoon and drain onto kitchen paper.
11. Cut each chimichanga in half and place onto a large serving plate (to serve with the quesadilla and salsa).
12. For the salsa, place all of the salsa ingredients into a food processor and pulse to combine. Season, to taste, with salt and freshly ground black pepper.
13. To serve, arrange the quesadillas and chimichangas around a large serving plate and place a bowl of salsa into the middle.

Deadly car bomb blast in Kashmir

Deadly car bomb blast in Kashmir

This may or may not be the spill over from Pakistan's insecurity. What is for sure is that there are elements inside the Pakistani government that are out of control and have been co-operating with hardcore Islamist groups. This is a problem in two major ways, the first being that the Pakistani state structures a riddled, a bit like cancer, with these people and they work counter to peaceful development of Pakistan, its civil society and private economic enterprise. This means that ordinary decent citizens are denied services, jobs and support they much need, and in turn they look to radical Islamist movements to help provide welfare and support, thus radicalizing Pakistani society at the grass roots leval.

The second major issue is that those in the Pakistani government and civil service who have aligned themselves with Islamist groups view India not only as an enemy but view the Hindu faith as "dirty", thus if they are left in place inside Pakistani government structures they can destabilise the delicate situation between Pakistan and India. In short they can spread violence to the Kashmir and potentially spark a war between India and Pakistan.
That's why the powers involved in Pakistan,India and Afghanistan must do as much as possible to root out these elements inside Pakistan

First post

The aim of this blog is to bring together news, comment and miscellaneous information under one roof, for example while at the same time as bringing to this blog the most up to date information on Iran's nuclear program I also hope to start a regular column on cooking and recipes. My hope is that i can bring you news and analysis on issues that may not immediately hit the headlines, but none the less still have a profound impact on our lives and on the world we live in.

In the longer term I want to have other people contribute articles, news, comment and advice(especially in the field of cookery). For now I would very much appreciate any feed back and any request to renew the games at the bottom of the screen, you may have.

I very much appreciate you taking the time out from your busy day to read and comment on my blog.
